The Seven Ages Travelling Vaudeville Show
- secondary show (suitable for all secondary levels)
- 50 minutes
This new Shakespeare show features scenes and songs from some of the Bard’s most popular work including large doses of comedy and broad Shakespearean humour.
Set in the context of a travelling vaudeville show, this performance gives students an excellent taste of Shakespeare and how accessible his work can be.
From the dramatic and moving orations of Julius Caesar to jazz Shakespeare and from the terror and tragedy of Macbeth to comic double-acts from The Comedy of Errors, this is Shakespeare as your students have never seen it before.
The actors of Loose Canon are able to give students the experience and understanding that can only be obtained from seeing drama in performance. Questions of meaning, character and atmosphere are answered for students in a way that reading the plays can never do.
One of the primary aims of The Seven Ages Travelling Vaudeville Show is to encourage students to treat the work of Shakespeare with less fear and reverence and enjoy the plays in whatever way they choose. For those students who have just begun their Shakespearean studies, it’s a particularly invigorating introduction.
If you would like us to try and include a scene from a particular play just let us know and we’ll do our best. We are easily able to include scenes from Twelfth Night, Othello, The Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Night’s Dream should your students be studying these plays specifically.
Learning any new skill is daunting and difficult but understanding Shakespeare is within all students’ capabilities – they just need the opportunity to realise it. The Seven Ages Travelling Vaudeville Show is the opportunity they’ve been waiting for!
