Outside The Lines
- performance poetry (suitable for all secondary levels)
- 50 minutes
Oh how we hate poetry
Its grim little lines
Sitting all smug on the page
Poetry often suffers from its oppressive title and for many students, ‘poetry’ conjures up images of trying to stay awake through tedious and self-important outpourings. Outside The Lines is a new poetry show from Loose Canon Arts that’s guaranteed to turn this notion on its head!
Drawing on our last nine years of poetry performance for young people, we have created a verse extravaganza which will revolutionize the way students consider poetry, exciting and inspiring their interest in this oft maligned literary form.
In recent times there has been a resurgence in poetry as a vehicle for live performance and this program reflects the urgency and vitality that abounds in poetry and lyrics today. Outside The Lines is action-packed poetry performed with unrivalled dynamism.
This is a show which highlights the expression, humour and interests of a range of truly exciting poets who definitely colour outside the lines. It’s also a show which helps students see poetry outside of the lines on a page and instead as alive, dramatic and dynamic.
The experience of seeing a piece of verse performed in a highly comical, musical or physical way is a groundbreaking one for many students whose attitude to poetry can change as a result.
As with previous poetry shows, Outside the Lines is suitable for all secondary students and will appeal to different year levels for different reasons.
The actors of Loose Canon use music, rhythm, dance, physical theatre and outrageous comic energy to create and present a world of verse which will amaze even the most sceptical students.
Including poetry from around the world and featuring the work of such poets and songwriters as Roger McGough, Bob Dylan and Bruce Dawe as well as classic works of verse from Roald Dahl and many others, Outside the Lines is an invigorating literary and theatrical experience.
