Monkeyshines
- Family show (suitable for kids 4 – 12 and their parents)
- 60 mins
Looking for an deliciously deranged theatrical experience that the kids will go ape for? Then roll up, roll up, roll up for Monkeyshines, a madcap adventure in a crazy and colourful carnival-cum-cabaret where the wonderfully strange meets the hilariously unexpected.
Join hosts Dr Sweetpea McGee, Gorgeous George and Sideshow Pony for 60 minutes of wacky vaudevillian antics, low-brow high jinks and general tomfoolery.
Be astonished by Dr McGee’s bizarre acts of circus home surgery, thrill to the sight of Cha Cha the world's first sideshow monkey-man, be amazed by Pipi the levitating midget, ogle at the spectacle of slap-happy conjoined German hillbillies Olga and Golga and get swinging with suburban husband and wife trapeze try-hards The Incredible Flying Beavers. The Sideshow Pony Ukulele Orchestra completes the line-up of showbiz oddballs that makes Monkeyshines such a delightfully silly theatrical experience for the young and young at heart.
Monkeyshines was created as a special commission for the Sydney Opera House where it enjoyed an extended sell out season in 2008. The show has also played to sell out audiences at Sydney’s Carriageworks and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, and enjoyed a three week season at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival where it was selected by the Adelaide Advertiser as one of the ‘Best of the Fest’.
The word ‘monkeyshines’ is an old slang term that means foolishness and mischief and that exactly what the show delivers. It’s fabulous fun; clever and stupid at the same time; sublime and ridiculous. And it’s tons of fun not just for children but for adults as well. It really is a show for all ages.
So step right up for Monkeyshines, a crazy comedy cabaret that’ll have everyone in the family going bananas.
Monkeyshines will be performed at the Seymour Centre in Sydney in 2012 during the April school holidays.
